What each presentation showed me

Image
Going into this presentation assignment, I honestly felt a mix of nervousness and excitement but mostly nervousness . My topic was about testimony in public speaking — specifically expert testimony, celebrity testimony, lay testimony, and how facts and statistics strengthen logical appeals. At first, I thought it sounded like a simple topic, but once I started reading the text  and putting my PowerPoint together, I realized how important this really is when trying to persuade an audience. When I was presenting, I wanted my classmates to understand that not all testimony is equal. while some would consider expert testimony as usually the strongest because it comes from someone highly qualified in the field. I explained that audiences are more likely to believe information if it comes from someone they see as knowledgeable and credible. For example, if a doctor speaks about health issues, people are more likely to trust that information than if it comes from someone with no medical ...

What I took from each Group's Chapter Presentation

Image
By: Ariana Lemus Looking at everyone's presentation, I was very impressed inspired. Each group had their own style and sense of teamwork, and each individual had their own unique way of presenting each chapter, and yet I was able to understand each one fully! Everyone put in so much effort and knew the chapter they were explaining. Some groups were very energetic, others explained their ideas calmly and clearly, and some used examples that made the topics easy to understand. What I liked most was that each group made the chapter feel easy to understand by paraphrasing what they learned instead of worrying about sounding professional to where they sound like they are reading out of a textbook.  Before it was my turn to present, I was so nervous! I thought about speaking as a dual enrollment student to college students twice my age, and the personal pressure rose, for I felt I had such high standards to prove! I wanted to sound professional, but laid back and mature, and I was afra...

The Art of Public Speaking (Group 2)

Dylan Revollo (Group 2) Blog #1 Every group presentation was amazing and honestly better than I expected. I could tell that everyone put in lots of effort into each slide since they all had unique styles in the ways they organized the information. Watching each presentation made me realize how much everyone prepared beforehand by clearly explaining the topics and giving real-world examples or their experiences, which made it feel more interactive. I loved that everyone during their presentation made each chapter interesting and engaging, which made learning the topics enjoyable and easy to understand. Before taking this class, I always dreaded doing any presentations because I would get nervous being in front of people, leading me to speak faster, and felt that everyone was judging me in some way. However, I have come to realize after these few weeks of class that everyone is learning and figuring this stuff out, which made this speech class feel less scary and more fun. Coming into th...

Ashley Leon- Post 1

Ashley Leon – post 1     Self assessment and take away    Like many when gi v ing a presentation,  everytime  I’ve  had to present  I’ve  devoted all my planning into making clear  points that would help remind me of what I want to say in my  PowerPoint  while presenting.  I’ve  always tried to make my presentation  pleasing to the eye and rehearse my main  points,  so I  know  general ideas of topics  I'd  have to mention to just get an A. My main stress when presenting is my worry, I'll get a bad grade if I'm not extroverted or entertaining enough.                             After working together with my group and seeing others present.  I feel we all  walked away  in   different way s  we now view  presenting .  The chapters were highly informative and stret...
